My name is Megan. I am the founder and designer of Megan Phillips Collection. Starting a clothing line has been (in the most dramatic terms) the dream of my life and my number 1 driving factor for the past 7 years. This dream has taken me to a lot of places, but most notably it drove me to sell all of my belongings, move to New York City without a job or apartment, and miraculously land a few gigs with some big names that taught me a thing or two about work ethic. These moments and events throughout my life have kept my dream alive and have led me to today, the day I can show you what I have worked toward.
The vision behind Megan Phillips Collection surprisingly doesn’t come from life in the Big Apple but starts with life in my childhood bedroom. As a teenager, I used to stay up far past my bedtime listening to my favorite bands (usually the Killers, the Strokes, Rooney, or Phoenix depending on my mood), daydreaming of my future life in New York City, making wall collages out of clippings from Teen Vogue, watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Virgin Suicides, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off over and over and over, and laying on the floor for hours drawing up my dream outfits.
These moments as a child, when I let my imagination run free in my bedroom alone, are when I discovered a sense of what I liked, who I wanted to be, and what I wanted to make. Even as I grew up and refined the style that defines me, I have found I keep going back to the 13-year old daydreaming in her bedroom when looking for inspiration. It is in the details of this collection that I pull inspiration from and pay homage to the little girl in Milwaukee and everything she was and wished she could be—a little bit glamorous, a little bit rock and roll, a little bit grown up, a little bit girly, a little bit of New York, and a little bit of the Midwest girl with a vision, which I can finally share with the world.
My debut collection is a capsule that presents who I am, the message of my brand, and a glimpse into the signature style I plan to carry throughout my career as a designer. Each garment is something I’ve been dreaming up for years and wishing I had hanging in my closet, all inspired by my favorite things. My collection is feminine, flirty, and adaptable—from the hot summer days in Central Park to the city nights of dressing up for evening cocktails in LES. Many brands can transport you to a place or time, so for my first collection, I’m transporting you through my personal journey as a teenage dreamer to polished cosmopolitan woman.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you see something that you like, something that inspires you, or something that puts a smile on your face.
Ok Lady. I love you. Bye, bye.
